The Student Services Team is here to advise, guide, and provide you with resources to aid in your success, as well as help you navigate university policies and procedures. Our office is located in Smith 118, and we are open during normal business hours on Monday – Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. You can schedule a virtual, phone, or in-person appointment with your Student Services Coordinator and our Career Counselors.

Key Registration Dates this Month

Registration for Spring 2025 courses will open at 9:00 AM on Thursday, November 7, 2024. Please review the following dates to ensure you are prepared for registration:

November 7Registration opens in GWeb at 9:00 AM
November 11Enrollment in GW Monthly Payment Plan opens for Spring 2025

Enrollment Period runs from Nov 11 - Dec 9
November 18First day to submit the RTF-EZ

Fall 2024 Graduation Application

If you will be completing your program requirements in Fall 2024, please apply to graduate in GWeb as soon as possible. The deadline to apply to graduate in Fall 2024 is November 15, 2024. Please note that you must be registered for courses in Fall 2024 in order to graduate. Online graduation application instructions can be found on the Registrar’s Office website.

Fall ETD Deadlines

Please continue to be mindful of ETD  clearance deadlines for both Ph.D. students and for Master’s students completing a thesis.

Ph.D. students should visit our Ph.D. Clearance Deadlines page, and Master’s students completing a thesis should review our Master’s Thesis ETD Submission page.

Student Accounts Late Fee Policy Reminder

As dictated by GW’s Student Accounts Past-Due Policy, payment of all tuition charges and other applicable fees is due by the first day of the semester, unless you are actively participating in a GW monthly payment planStudents with an outstanding Student Accounts balance on November 15 will be charged a flat late fee of $75. Please review your Student Accounts eBill to see if you have any unpaid charges. Both the Late Payments policy and a full breakdown of financial due dates and deadlines can be found on the Student Accounts Office website.

Notice for New Students Admitted in Fall 2024

If you started your program of study in the Fall 2024 semester, please make sure that you have turned in all official documents and transcripts required as part of the admissions process. If you have not submitted your transcripts, you will notice a hold on your account and will be unable to register for Spring 2025 courses. If you have a transcript hold, please reach out to our Admissions team at [email protected]. They will work with you to ensure you have turned in all required documents. More information on holds can be found on the Registrar’s Office website.


Resource Highlight: The Store

George Washington University’s (GW) on-campus food pantry, The Store, has been a staple institution since it opened in September 2016. The Store was a graduate student’s project inspired by increasing recognition of national college food insecurity. This year, we have had over 2,500 visits! We are happy to have you if you need additional food and hygiene resources. Food insecurity can look different for everyone, such as running out of meal swipes and limiting meals, eating snacks or other non nourishing foods for meals, or stress or anxiety about where the next meal is going to come from. This can often lead to not being able to focus on school. If The Store sounds like an appropriate resource for you, see below for additional information about our operations.

We are located in District House in B121! If you go to the side with Peet’s, take the elevator down to B1, and The Store will be to your immediate right. The Store is open from 12-6 Monday through Thursday, and 2-8 on Fridays. Stop by anytime during our open hours, and a staff member will help you get set up and ready to shop! All you need to do is fill out a quick access form, and bring your GWID. Each time you shop, you will swipe your GWID, and then shop with a basket. We ask shoppers to come once a week and to follow our color category limits system to ensure that we are able to serve everyone who walks through our doors. Once you finish shopping, you will check out with a staff member. Please bring your own bag. CCAS graduate students have access to dedicated career coaches to help with resumes, cover letters, networking, interviewing, and many other areas. (Note: The Trachtenberg School and Data Science program have their own dedicated career counselors.) Erin Ahart and Dr. Ruffner-Ceaser are available to meet one-on-one, with options to meet in person or online. Interview With Ease

Thursday, November 7th from 12:00pm - 1:00pm | Virtual (Zoom) | Registration

Gain essential tips and tricks that will take your interviewing skills to the next level, and more importantly, allow you to interview with ease and confidence! During this session, you will learn to answer commonly asked interview questions including “What are your strengths and weaknesses?” and “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” You will also understand important differences in navigating virtual and in-person interviews and gain helpful interview preparation strategies and resources.

Working Your Network

Wednesday, November 20th from 5:00pm - 6:00pm | Virtual (Zoom) | Registration

Effectively navigating and maximizing your professional network is a key strategy in securing desirable job opportunities. Building and nurturing meaningful connections within your industry can open doors to unadvertised positions and insider insights. During this session, you will learn the importance of a professional network, determine who should be a part of your network, and understand how to build and utilize meaningful professional connections while adding value to them.

Managing Job Search Anxiety

Thursday, November 21st from 12:00pm - 1:00pm | Virtual (Zoom) | Registration

Let’s face it, job searching is stressful! Feelings of nervousness, overwhelm, and uncertainty are all natural parts of finding and securing employment. Learn from a panel of experienced professionals how to manage job search-related stress and anxiety so you can better navigate this process. During this session, you will learn the causes of job search-related anxiety, gain effective strategies used by GW faculty and staff to minimize job search anxiety, and receive advice and hear stories from people who have been in your shoes!


Upcoming Student Events

Fall 2024 Ph.D. ETD Workshop II

Thursday, November 14th from 3:00pm - 4:00pm | Virtual (Zoom) | Registration

In this workshop, Student Services team members will review the Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) submission process and formatting requirements, as well as discuss procedures and graduation deadlines specific to CCAS PhD students. Students completing their dissertation in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 are strongly encouraged to attend this workshop.

This is a repeat session. If you attended the session on October 9, 2024, there is no need to attend this session.

University Closed for Thanksgiving Break

Thursday, November 28 - Friday, November 29

The University will be closed on November 28th & 29th in observance of Thanksgiving. Offices will be closed and no classes will be held. The University will reopen on Monday, December 2nd. We hope you have a nice break!

Funding, Fellowships, Internships & Employment Opportunities

Library of Congress Junior Fellows Program

Application Deadline: November 18, 2024

The Library of Congress is seeking applicants for its next Junior Fellows Program, a summer internship held from May 19 through July 25, 2025. This 10-week, full-time paid internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students and recent graduates interested in learning and conducting research using the resources of the largest library in the world. Remote and onsite project opportunities are available. The Inter-American Foundation Research Fellowship Program

Application Deadline: December 3, 2024

The Inter-American Foundation (IAF), in conjunction with the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), welcomes applicants for its new Research Fellowship Program to advance rigorous field-based research on actionable questions about community-led development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The IAF will award up to ten Fellowships in 2025. Each of the ten fellowships includes a stipend of $20,000 to support an individual researcher working over the course of twelve months in one or more of the countries in the region where the IAF works (see IAF.gov/Where we work), participation in a three-day in-person orientation workshop, and engagement with the network of IAF Fellows.

Applicants must be a citizen of one of the countries in which the IAF works or the United States and must have at least a Bachelor’s Degree.
