They have taken time out of their demanding and impressive work on dissertations to lead literary discussions for Iona House, which is a DC service organization for seniors.  Many of the Iona participants have been isolated for the last year, and this opportunity to discuss serious literature with young scholars has meant the world to them.  These English PhD students have demonstrated the perfect intersection of scholarship and community service.
