Ella Schalski

Kudos to Ella Schalski (English) on her ambitious and outstanding analysis of Thi Bui’s graphic memoir "The Best We Could Do" in her final paper for ENG 6540 in Fall 2021. Ella: your paper convincingly draws upon key scholars in Comics Studies like Hillary Chute, as well as on Judith Butler’s writings on representational ethics, to demonstrate how the memoir offers a feminist counter-narrative to the mainstream glorification of the Vietnam war in the United States. Theoretically sophisticated and well-researched, this essay offers a fresh and exciting new contribution to Comics Studies and Asian American Studies. I hope to see this essay published soon!
