Faculty Award Nominations

Departments and students are invited to nominate professors who demonstrate excellence in teaching. Nomination forms and deadlines will be posted in spring 2018.

The annual Robert W. Kenny Prize for Innovation in Teaching of Introductory Courses is offered to a faculty member in Columbian College whose teaching encouraged students to think differently, enabling them to maximize their academic experience. The Kenny Prize honors former Dean Robert Kenny and his special dedication to stimulating experiences for undergraduate students at the beginning of their time at GW.

Departments and students are invited to nominate a professor who taught an introductory or basic course (intended for first years or sophomores) in an imaginative or innovative approach that motivated students to learn.

The faculty member and course should meet certain criteria:

  • The professor is a truly memorable teacher.

  • The professor is a full-time Columbian College faculty member and is not in their first year of teaching.

  • The course introduces its subject in a creative way and encouraged students to think differently.

  • The course was taught in the current academic year.

A complete nomination package contains:

  1. A nomination letter from the department, of no more than two pages, describing how the chosen instructor’s approach to teaching is innovative, creative and/or original.

  2. At least one letter from a student to second the nomination. A maximum of three student letters of support may be submitted.

The nomination form and deadline will be posted in spring 2018.

  2. A letter of support from at least one student

These packages must be transmitted to the Columbian College Office of the Dean via the appropriate department chair.
