With faculty, friends and family looking on, the Class of 2019 received a celebratory sendoff as they embrace both the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead.

Undergraduate Celebrations

Psychology major Frances Cooke was the recipient of this year's Alumni Association Prize for undergraduate accomplishments. In addition, Professor of Psychology Sarah Shomstein received the Columbian Prize for teaching and mentoring advanced undergraduate students, and Assistant Professor of Chemistry Claire Besson won the Robert W. Kenny Prize for innovation in teaching of introductory courses.

12:00 P.M. Ceremony 

Attending the noon ceremony were students majoring in cognitive neuroscience, criminal justice, economics, human services & social justice, journalism & mass communication, political communication, political science, psychology and sociology. Speakers were Distinguished Scholar recipient and political science major Jeremy Marsch and Associate Professor of Political Science Danny Hayes.

03:30 P.M. Ceremony

Attending the 3:30 ceremony were students majoring in Africana studies, American studies, anthropology, Arabic studies, archaeology, art history, biological anthropology, biological sciences, chemistry, Chinese, classical studies, communication, creative writing, fine arts, design, dance, dramatic literature, English, English & creative writing, environmental studies, French, geography, geological sciences, German, history, interior architecture, Japanese, Judaic studies, mathematics, music, organizational sciences, philosophy, physics, biophysics, religion, peace studies, Russian, Spanish & Latin American languages, literatures & cultures, special interdisciplinary majors, speech, language & hearing sciences, statistics, theatre, women's, gender & sexuality studies, general studies and associate in arts. Speakers were Distinguished Scholar recipient and physics & political science major Jack Hirschman, Distinguished Scholar recipient and English & Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies major Ashley Atilano and Professor of Geography & International Affairs Marie Price.


Graduate Celebrations

Master's Ceremony

Speakers at the Celebration for students receiving master’s degrees were American studies graduate student and Distinguished Scholar recipient Jasmine Cannon and Associate Professor of Organizational Sciences Gelaye Debebe. Associate Professor of Museum Studies Kym Rice received the Graduate Advising Award for excellence in graduate faculty mentoring.

Doctoral Hooding

In the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, doctoral graduates were recognized and hooded. Graduates at the ceremony received doctorates in various fields in both the arts and sciences, such as biological sciences, English, economics, mathematics, political science, physics, psychology and statistics.
