Welcome to the CCAS Graduate Student Newsletter! Designed to keep you up to date with news and events, policies and processes, and all things for CCAS Graduate students!

APRIL 2021
The CCAS Office of Graduate Studies staff will be working remotely until further notice. While we won't physically be on campus, we are here for you and can be reached during normal business hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. We will be responding to emails and voicemails. Additionally, during this time, please submit all materials electronically to [email protected]. This may mean you have to communicate with your advisors in advance to get signatures or approvals.
Despite the distance and all the challenges you are facing, know that the Student Services team is here to support you and will continue to be dedicated to providing you guidance and serve as a resource that helps you navigate university policies and procedures. Stay strong, stay connected and please take good care of yourselves, your families and each other.

CCAS Expectations for Virtual Instruction

Graduate Student Appreciation Week | April 5th - 9th, 2021
The Office of Graduate Studies is celebrating Graduate Student Appreciation Week (GSAW). started in 1993 by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students as a way to support and appreciate graduate and professional students. The week seeks to emphasize the contributions, impact, and value of graduate and professional students on campuses throughout the United States. CCAS will be celebrating the week with a variety of virtual events for graduate students. The full week of events is now available on our website.

The Store
The Store is a student-run food pantry at the George Washington University that is managed by The Store student organization and the Division for Student Affairs provides resources and support for students living with food insecurity. Students should be aware that as a condition of access to the store this semester, they are required to comply with the testing and symptom monitoring requirements to maintain GWorld access to District House and the Store.
Spring Check-In Survey
The survey period is from March 30- April 11, 2021. The survey was developed with input from several campus stakeholders including Survey Research and Analysis, Office for Student Success, Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Student Financial Aid, Career Services, and the Division for Student Affairs. The survey will gauge student academic experiences, health and well-being, and fall 2021 plans. Survey questions were designed to enable action and outreach to students who indicate they are in need of assistance. Please check your emails for the link to complete this survey.
Career Services Corner
Student Success Coach
The Office of Student Success & Retention (SS&R) is seeking a Graduate student to fill their Student Success Coach position. The Academic Success Coach assists SS&R in support of a university-wide commitment to improving student persistence and success at the George Washington University. The position will have significant interaction with students to provide academic support with the goal of enhancing student success. A key component of this role will be the implementation of individualized academic success programs—an intrusive and comprehensive initiative to improve academic progress for undergraduate students. mentioned in today's task force meeting. April Highlight
Hannah Mae White, a student in the Masters in Forensic Psychology program received an award this past December through the Richmond Chamber of Commerce for her work during COVID-19. Hannah is the Program Director for an intensive substance abuse treatment program through the Virginia Department of Corrections and led her team and inmates through a tough year. She was also recently promoted in January 2021 to Community Corrections Alternative Program Manager for the Virginia Department of Corrections where she will monitor and support all the programming for this alternative sentencing program for probationers.
Ariana Kaye and Delfin Ogutogullari students in Art History published essays in the online journal for the Coalition of Master's Scholars on Material Culture.
Fall Registration
Registration opens on April 15th at 9 A.M. for All Degree-Seeking Graduate Students. All CCAS graduate students are required to register continuously each fall and spring semester until the completion of their program. For instructions on how to register please visit the Registrar Office website for steps for registration.
Choosing Between RTF & RTF-EZ
In most instances students will be able to register online through GWeb. In some cases, a paper registration form is required. If paper registeration is required, there are two different registration forms, the RTF and RTF-EZ. Check out our registration page for examples of when you should use the RTF and when you need to use the RTF-EZ.

CCAS Graduation Celebration: Save the Date
We look forward to recognizing our graduates and their achievement!
In addition to GW’s virtual commencement on May 16, we hope you and your family and friends will join the live-streamed CCAS graduation events. Our Doctoral Hooding will take place on May 12, at 7:00 pm, and the Master’s Celebration is on May 13 at 7:00 pm.
Each graduate will have a "virtual" walk across the stage during the CCAS Celebrations, with your name read and your photo and degree information displayed. Please be on the lookout for an email to your GW email account requesting information to ensure that you are included in this virtual walk.
Also, we invite you to share photos of your favorite GW memories on our CCAS Instagram, Facebook or Twitter platforms using the hashtag #CCASOnward.

Credit/No Credit Spring 2021
Students whose programs will allow courses to be taken for CR/NC will have until Friday, April 16, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. EDT, to exercise this option for the Spring 2021 semester. No changes will be permitted after submission, and no submissions will be accepted after the deadline. The CCAS Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) will begin accepting requests on Monday, March 1, 2021; the final deadline for submitting requests is Friday, April 16, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
ETD Deadlines!
Master Thesis Deadlines
April 23 - ETD Submission Deadline. Must submit your approved thesis to ProQuest site and submit ETD approval form to [email protected] by this deadline.
April 30 - Final University ETD deadline. All formatting edits must be completed by this deadline.
Ph.D. Deadlines
April 1 - Dissertation defense deadline
April 8 - ETD submission deadline: Submit final, approved, post-defense, electronic dissertation to the ProQuest site
April 15 - Final, approved dissertation containing all post-defense revisions and required formatting is approved by University ETD administrator

The Office of Graduate Studies has created a National Fellowship Opportunity website located under the Funding Opportunities page on the current student website. It lists a large number of national fellowships for Ph.D. students and there are some specific dissertation fellowships.

The Bryce Harlow Foundation, the premier organization in Washington for government advocacy, is now accepting applications for its Bryce Harlow Fellowships. Fellowships are awarded to individuals working full-time, attending graduate school part-time and who anticipate having careers in the field of government relations, lobbying or advocacy.
Recipients receive $8,000 ($4,000 per semester), mentoring opportunities, and access to seminars and other educational activities. For more information, please visit their website.
