Robert Kenny Prize for Innovation in Teaching of Introductory Courses
The Robert W. Kenny Prize for Innovation in Teaching of Introductory Courses is awarded to a Columbian College of Arts and Sciences faculty member who has shown innovation, creativity and originality in teaching an introductory course in the arts and sciences.
The recipient teaches an introductory or basic course during the academic year in a novel and innovative way. Professors receiving this award have encouraged their students to think differently and enhance their academic experience at the George Washington University. The Robert Kenny Prize is awarded each year during Columbian College's graduation ceremonies.
History
Robert W. Kenny became dean of Columbian College in 1989. During his tenure as dean, Kenny presided over the consolidation of the two schools. He retired in 1992, following 30 years of service as a member of the History Department faculty.
The Robert W. Kenny Faculty Prize was established in 1993 by gifts made in honor of Kenny. The income earned by this fund supports annual awards to members of the arts and sciences faculty. The prize honors the former dean and his special dedication to stimulating experiences for GW students and his emphasis on the importance of introductory courses as students undertake their studies in the arts and sciences.
