Welcome to the CCAS Graduate Student Newsletter! Designed to keep you up to date with news and events, policies and processes, and all things for CCAS Graduate students!

MARCH 2021
The CCAS Office of Graduate Studies staff will be working remotely until further notice. While we won't physically be on campus, we are here for you and can be reached during normal business hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. We will be responding to emails and voicemails. Additionally, during this time, please submit all materials electronically to [email protected]. This may mean you have to communicate with your advisors in advance to get signatures or approvals.
Despite the distance and all the challenges you are facing, know that the Student Services team is here to support you and will continue to be dedicated to providing you guidance and serve as a resource that helps you navigate university policies and procedures. Stay strong, stay connected and please take good care of yourselves, your families and each other.

Interaction Design graduate student Kaitlin Santiago created a solar panel system as a response to her Florida home being hit by Hurricane Sally.

Art History MA student Ariana Kaye published a blog post about alum John Edmonds on the Phillips Collection website.

New Media Photojournalism Alumni Eric Lee (M.A. '20) had his thesis published by NPR. His thesis work led him to pitch election coverage to the Atlantic. Earlier this summer he expanded a project on the horse and carriage vegetable sellers in Baltimore as they began delivering supplies and food to those in dire need due to COVID.

Caroline Willauer (M.A. '20) was featured on a French news network discussing the implications of Biden's inauguration.
U.S. Student Fulbright Semi-Finalists!
Congratulations to this year's GW U.S. Student Fulbright Semi-Finalists. Nine graduate students and graduate student alumni will move on to the finalist round. This year was the Fulbright's most competitive in its 75 year history, receiving close to twelve thousand applications:

Credit/No Credit Spring 2021
Students whose programs will allow courses to be taken for CR/NC will have until Friday, April 16, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. EDT, to exercise this option for the Spring 2021 semester. No changes will be permitted after submission, and no submissions will be accepted after the deadline. The CCAS Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) will begin accepting requests on Monday, March 1, 2021; the final deadline for submitting requests is Friday, April 16, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
ETD Deadlines!
Master Thesis Deadlines
April 23 - ETD Submission Deadline. Must submit your approved thesis to ProQuest site and submit ETD approval form (PDF) to [email protected] by this deadline.
April 30 - Final University ETD deadline. All formatting edits must be completed by this deadline.
Ph.D. Deadlines
March 19 - Submit the Dissertation Examination Defense Form
April 1 - Dissertation defense deadline
April 8 - ETD submission deadline: Submit final, approved, post-defense, electronic dissertation to the ProQuest site
April 15 - Final, approved dissertation containing all post-defense revisions and required formatting is approved by University ETD administrator
Spring 2021 Graduation Application Deadline
All students expecting to complete their degree requirements in Spring 2021 must apply to graduate in Spring. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible. The application is submitted through GWeb. The online application will close after March 15.
If you applied for Fall graduation but did not complete your requirements, you must re-apply for Spring graduation. Your Fall application will not automatically transfer over to the Spring.
Doctoral students planning to graduate please reference the CCAS Ph.D. Clearance Deadlines page for Spring 2021 deadlines and reach out to [email protected] with any questions.
Tax Department
The tax department provides information regarding tax issues that may impact GW students, such as the taxation of payments received from the university (i.e. salary, scholarships, stipends, etc.) and helpful tax forms and student publications.
International Student Tax Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, March 11th from 12pm - 1pm on Zoom. Prior registration is required. If you cannot make it to this workshop you may register to attend one of the webinars that Sprint tax is conducting. You can find the dates and registration links on GW’s Sprintax web page.

Funding/Employment Opportunities
National Fellowship Opportunities
The Office of Graduate Studies has created a National Fellowship Opportunity website located under the Funding Opportunities page on the current student website. It lists a large number of national fellowships for Ph.D. students and there are some specific dissertation fellowships.
CCAS Awards
Applications are now open for two Doctoral funding opportunities: the CCAS Dean’s Graduate Instructorship and the Dean’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship.
The Dean’s Dissertation Completion Fellowship includes a stipend equivalent to the normal GA salary and stipend in the recipient’s respective department for one or two semesters, as well as an award of required candidacy tuition for the period of the fellowship. Application Deadline: March 10

Scottish Rite Endowment Graduate Fellowships

Walter Green Fellowships
Deadline: 8 March 2021
For incoming or current Master's students who intend a career in public service or government and work in a paid job or internship for at least 15 hours a week. The student must be or will be employed in a paid job or paid internship related to their program at GW in the DC Metro Area at the time of application.
Academic year fellowships will be up to $6,000 for full-time study and up to $3,000 for part-time study (excluding fees).

APA-IUPsyS Global Mental Health Fellowship

Bryce Harlow Fellowships
Deadline: 25 April 2021
The Bryce Harlow Foundation, the premier organization in Washington for government advocacy, is now accepting applications for its Bryce Harlow Fellowships. Fellowships are awarded to individuals working full-time, attending graduate school part-time and who anticipate having careers in the field of government relations, lobbying or advocacy.
Recipients receive $8,000 ($4,000 per semester), mentoring opportunities, and access to seminars and other educational activities. For more information, please visit their website.
