To encourage social distancing, the CCAS Office of Graduate Studies staff will be working remotely until further notice. While we won't physically be on campus, we are here for you and can be reached during normal business hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. We will be responding to emails and voicemails. Additionally, during this time, please submit all materials electronically to [email protected]. This may mean you have to communicate with your advisors in advance to get signatures or approvals.
Despite the distance and all the challenges you are facing, know that the Student Services team is here to support you and will continue to be dedicated to providing you guidance and serve as a resource that helps you navigate university policies and procedures. Stay strong, stay connected and please take good care of yourselves, your families and each other.

The Reading Room: Faculty Bookshelf
People are marching against Racism. They're also reading about it. Books on the subject have soared up the best-sellers list as protests continue across the country. Some recommendations from CCAS faculty include Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, White Fragility by Robin Diangelo and Martin & Malcolm & America by James H. Cone.
We would like to inform you of new academic policy changes that will go into effect beginning in Fall 2020. Please take a moment to carefully review these new changes and e-mail your DGS or student services coordinator at [email protected] with any questions.
fall 2020 registration reminders
Please make sure you clear any holds on your account that may prevent you from registering.
To View Your Holds:
- Log in to the GWeb Information System
- Click on the “Student Record and Registration” folder
- Next, click on “Student Records Information Menu”
- Finally, click on “View Administrative Holds”
Check your DegreeMAP, the online system that allows you to view and track your path to degree completion. Watch DegreeMap video for instructions on using your DegreeMap record.
Requests for Half-Time/Full-Time Certification after you have registered in less than 9 credits.
If you are unable to enroll in courses this Fall, please contact [email protected] to discuss your options for a Leave of Absence.

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) Workshop
Students completing their thesis or dissertation in the near future are strongly encouraged to attend the upcoming Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD) workshop. Our student services team will review the submission process, formatting requirements, and briefly discuss upcoming deadlines. This session will only cover requirements specific to CCAS graduate students. Log in for one of the following dates. No advanced registration is needed. You can register via WebEx for the July 15 date.
Summer Graduation Application Deadline
The application should be submitted through GWeb. Step-by-step instructions on completing the application can be found on the Registrar's website. The online application will close after July 15, so any student wishing to apply for Summer graduation after this date will need to submit a paper application to the CCAS Office of Graduate Studies at [email protected].
If you applied for Spring graduation but did not complete your requirements, you must re-apply for Summer graduation. Your Spring application will not automatically transfer over to the Summer.
Assistance Funds
GW Cares Student Assistance Fund
Managed through the Office of Student Success, this resource can provide grants to students who are faced with an emergency not related to your tuition payments. To apply, fill out the application form. The fund is designated to off-set a short-term financial need and is not intended to replace and supplement financial aid.
External Support: Scholly Student Relief Fund
With the COVID-19 health crisis sweeping across the nation, Scholly is providing cash assistance to those in need during the COVID-19 Crisis. Apply today to receive $200 in cash assistance to help cover expenses. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis through June 15th, 2020 dependent on the availability of funds.

Scottish Rite Endowment Graduate Fellowships
Deadline: 7 August 2020
Tuition fellowships funded by income from a Scottish Rite endowment given to the George Washington University, are awarded for the academic year to full-time graduate students in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences at the George Washington University Foggy Bottom campus.
Fellowships are up to twelve credits per academic year for full-time study and up to six credits per academic year for part-time study.
Eligibility is confirmed by the Scottish Rite if either the applicant's great grandfather, grandfather, father, uncle, or self is or has been a 32 degree Scottish Rite member.
