To encourage social distancing, the CCAS Office of Graduate Studies staff will be working remotely until further notice. While we won't physically be on campus, we are here for you and can be reached during normal business hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. We will be responding to emails and voicemails. Additionally, during this time, please submit all materials electronically to [email protected]. This may mean you have to communicate with your advisors in advance to get signatures or approvals.
Despite the distance and all the challenges you are facing, know that the Student Services team is here to support you and will continue to be dedicated to providing you guidance and serve as a resource that helps you navigate university policies and procedures. Stay strong, stay connected and please take good care of yourselves, your families and each other.
For our June newsletter we have the following topics:

CAPS Wellness Wednesday
We Talk is a drop-in program for all GW students. We Talk is an informal, friendly consultation with counseling staff alongside peers with similar backgrounds/interests. While we have daily themes that rotate biweekly to establish a space for students with similar experiences, all students are welcome to join any We Talk session! We Talk is not a substitute for formal counseling and does not constitute mental health treatment, but the counseling-consultants can listen, provide support, and introduce you to what it’s like to speak to a counselor at CAPS. No registration, commitment, or appointment is needed, just drop in.
The GWWC Virtual Café (OPENING THIS SUMMER!)
Miss hanging out at your favorite coffee shop to do your homework? Come join us in the Writing Center's Virtual Café on Monday evenings, from 6-8 p.m.!
What’s a “Virtual Café?”
A “Virtual Café” is a two-hour block of time where you’ll write--or do any kind of homework--in the company of others. You don’t have to write alone. You CAN meet your deadlines.
We'll be here every week. You can join us just once, or you can put the Café on your calendar so that you know you have a set, dedicated time every week for getting your academic work done.
If you’re interested, please register by 3 p.m. the day before the café (we need time to set it up). Once registered, we'll send you a weekly reminder about (and Zoom link for) the Monday Café.
You can also visit the Virtual Café webpage for more information!

- Students can see their registration eligibility, including any holds, academic standing, and student status.
- Students can review the course schedule and register for classes on the same page – no more multiple tabs.
- A new “Conditional Add/Drop” feature will allow students to drop a course only if they are able to enroll in their new preferred course.
- Schedules may be viewed in a day/time grid format.
- Better visibility of potential error messages.
- Students will be able to email schedules to themselves and add weekly schedules to calendars.
How to Register
The “How to Register” section on the GW Registrar’s website has been updated with new content, and will continue to be refined over the next few weeks as feedback is received. A downloadable reference guide for students is in development. Train-the-trainer sessions for advisors have been well attended and valuable feedback has been received. A quick reference guide is being developed and will be forwarded to advisors upon completion.
The next stage of enhancements will focus on integration with DegreeMAP (August/September) that will allow students to import planned courses to the registration system.
