Position Overview: National Council of Arts & Sciences

Position Overview

Established in 1993, the National Council of Arts and Sciences serves as the volunteer advisory body to the Dean of the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences (CCAS). Since its 1821 Congressional charter, CCAS has stood at the heart of the university as its largest and most comprehensive academic unit—home to 42 departments, three affiliated schools, 7,000 students, 500 distinguished faculty members and a global alumni network of more than 90,000 leaders.

Council membership reflects distinction, leadership and a shared belief in the transformative power of a liberal arts and sciences education. Members are trusted partners to the Dean—providing strategic guidance, championing innovation and investing philanthropically in the College’s continued excellence and impact.

Through their leadership and generosity, council members help ensure that CCAS fully leverages its unique location in Washington, D.C.—at the intersection of policy, research, culture and global affairs—to prepare the next generation of thinkers, creators and changemakers.
