Giving Priorities
Your gift to GW’s Columbian College of Arts & Sciences has the potential to shape the future of education, research, and innovation. Your support is not merely a donation; it's an investment in the potential of tomorrow's leaders and the ongoing pursuit of excellence. Whether it's supporting scholarships for bright minds or backing research that pushes the envelope, you've got options. Your contribution, big or small, plays critical a role in advancing our mission and vision.
Give Where It's Needed Most ...
Help GW students make a difference now and in the future by giving to The Centuries Initiative for Scholarships and Fellowships. Your support will close the financial gap and create opportunities for the next generation of leaders. Learn more on the GW Giving site, or contact CCAS Giving Staff with any questions.
... or Support a Specific Cause
Your generosity could support a diverse range of initiatives in the arts and sciences:
Create Opportunity with Endowed Professorships
Endowed faculty positions, such as the Ted Turner Endowed Professor of Environmental Media in the School of Media & Public Affairs, provide academic honors and salary support in perpetuity. By endowing a professorship or a chair position, you enable CCAS to attract and retain the best researchers and teachers – such as acclaimed science journalist and current Turner Professor Eli Kintisch. These positions bolster our academic reputation while giving students life-changing academic opportunities.
Support Our Students
Endowed tuition awards allow the best students to pursue an arts and sciences degree regardless of their financial situations. You can build a lasting legacy of support by endowing an undergraduate financial aid scholarship such as the Earl and Valerie Washington Endowed Scholarship Fund, established by alumna Kerry Washington, BA ‘98, HON ‘13, in honor of her parents. Or, support graduate students by creating a fund such as the Environmental and Energy Study Institute Graduate Scholarship, which was endowed by an anonymous donor.
Support Innovative Faculty Research
Every research project begins with a spark of innovation. Accolades like GW’s Association of American Universities membership depend on our faculty’s rigorous research output. Your support can uplift timely scholarly projects such as the Institute for Data, Democracy and Politics, which recently received a $3 million renewal grant from the Knight Foundation to continue investigating the intersection of technology, democracy and public policy. Philanthropy provides essential funding to connect scholars, provide technical equipment and fund research travel stipends for CCAS professors.
Fund Undergraduate Research Opportunities
No matter which field they explore — science, public policy, social science, the arts or the humanities — our undergraduate students work side-by-side with faculty to push the boundaries of innovation and creativity. Undergraduate research opportunities, such as what is supported through the Robert Vincent Fellowship, provide students with the means necessary to inspire the next generation of scientists, analysts, artists and more.
"When I received the Cisneros Scholarship and The Earl and Valerie Washington Scholarship, I understood what this meant for my academic pursuits and what this meant for my parents. It inspires me to keep pedaling. You realize that you’re the one who has to turn the wheels. . . . There are ups and downs, but I know there are people there to support me along the way.”
