We’d like to hear from people who know your work deeply, and who can assess your potential for growth. We'd like to hear from directors who have worked with you if possible; academic directors, mentors, or professors would also be great.
Statement of Purpose 1-3 pages. This is where you can express your personality, individuality, and goals. Anything goes here, but we’re most excited by the essays that feel honest, authentic, and don’t have boilerplate language (as in, “I believe [insert school name here] is the best place for me to pursue my artistic goals.”) By all means tell us why you’re interested in STC Academy, and why you're pursuing advanced training at this time in your life. Why is the Academy a good fit for you? What will you bring to the program that no one else can? How do you envision your path after graduation? Most of all, we want to get to know the real you. So be brave in your essay. Resume Required

Because we seek to determine your potential as a student in a program of academic criminology, your letters of recommendation should come from your current or former professors. The Department will accept letters from employers, but recommendations from professors who are familiar with your academic abilities tend to carry more weight. Statement of Purpose In an essay of 250-500 words, state your purpose in undertaking graduate study in criminology. This statement should reflect your preparation for graduate study in criminology and the fit between your intellectual interests and our departmental strengths. Resume Required Writing Sample Applicants must submit a writing sample of no more than 30 pages, including references. A revised course paper is often the most suitable option, particularly if it reflects improvements made in response to professional feedback. The sole function of the writing sample is the demonstration of your writing ability, so it would be unwise to submit anything generated by AI. While the department will assess writing samples on any topic, the sample also offers an opportunity to highlight your expertise in a particular subject area if you wish. Minimum English Proficiency Test Scores - IELTS: Overall band score of 7.0 with no individual band score below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT: 100 (old test), 5 (new test)
- Duolingo: 130
- PTE Academic: 68

Prerequisite Requirement A bachelor’s degree with a major in Sociology or in an approved related field. GRE Test Optional Academic Records Provide unofficial transcripts from every college or university you have attended, regardless of whether you completed the program or earned credit. Letters of Recommendation Two
Because we seek to determine your potential as a student in a program of academic sociology, your letters of recommendation should come from your current or former professors. The Department will accept letters from employers, but recommendations from professors who are familiar with your academic abilities tend to carry more weight. Letters should address the quality of your performance on items required for graduate study such as critical thinking skills, writing skills, organizational aptitude, interest in the field, eagerness, and the ability to carry tasks through to completion.
Statement of Purpose In an essay of 250 – 500 words, state your purpose in undertaking graduate study in sociology. This statement should reflect your preparation for graduate study in sociology and the fit between your intellectual interests and our departmental strengths. Include your academic objectives, research interests, and career plans. Also discuss your related qualifications, including collegiate, professional, and community activities, and any other substantial accomplishments not already mentioned on the application. If you are applying for an assistantship or fellowship, you should also describe any teaching or research experience you have had.
