Fan Coil Unit (FCU) Replacement Project Frequently Asked Questions

What is the timeline?

Work began in the Academic Center May 26, 2026, and is scheduled to be completed August 10, 2026. For the specific dates on when your office may be impacted, please refer to this document (PDF), which is also posted throughout the building.

Can I work remotely?

It depends on your situation:

• Yes, if you are in an enclosed office and your FCU is being replaced, you can work remotely during the timeframe (PDF) your office is impacted. (Please make sure your contact information is readily available in case you need to be reached at your remote location.)
• No, if you are working in an office suite and your immediate workspace is not being impacted.
• If you need help finding a temporary space to work, please contact Maxine (maxinegwu [dot] edu) in the dean’s office.

Do I need to worry about items in my office?

• We recommend ensuring a minimum of 6 feet of working space be cleared in front of the unit for the construction team to safely access the FCU.
• We also recommend securing or removing all fragile, valuable and sensitive items in your offices to ensure no damage.

How much dust will be created?

The construction team will take precaution to minimize dust and debris by covering the bookshelves and tables with protective covering during the time of construction; however, you are free to cover and/or pack your items. There are boxes available to use in Phillips 212.

Will my space remain cool during this project?

Yes, the central building AC remains functional and is cooling the building. No need to contact facilities for temperature issues during this time.

How noisy is this project?

The work will not be disruptively loud, however there will be construction workers in the building from Monday to Friday between 5:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Is there anything I should look out for?

If you’re noticing water leaking, extreme noise, unprofessional handling of personal items or any other concerns, please contact Maxine (maxinegwu [dot] edu).

How will updates and information be communicated?

This webpage will be updated as information is shared with us. Updates will also be sent via email as the project progresses.
