The GW National Association of Hispanic Journalists was among three finalists for the 2025 Student Chapter of the Year award.

Tatiyana Apanasovich (Statistics) received a $18,400 award from National Science Foundation to support the conference, “The Past, Present, and Future of Statistics in the Era of AI.”

Melissa Boteach, MPP ’11, (TSPPPA) was named chief policy officer at the national nonprofit ZERO TO THREE.

Adam Dean (Political Science) received a $47,466 award from the Russell Sage Foundation for research on improving labor conditions for healthcare workers.

Kalvir Dhuga (Physics) received a $39,957 award from NASA for x-ray/UV monitoring of luminosity activity inside galactic nuclei.

Evangeline Downie (Physics) received a $161,044 award from the U.S. Department of Energy to support her work on the MUon proton Scattering Experiment (MUSE) Collaboration.

Michael Harris, MPP ’20, (TSPPPA) was named lead advisor on energy and environment policy for Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

Oleg Kargaltsev (Physics) received two NASA grants: $79,926 for a multiwavelength survey of sources from the Fourth Fermi Large Area Telescope Catalog (4FGL) and $22,411 for exploring the nature of a gamma-ray source known as PeVatron Candidate HESS J1702-420A.

Kathryn Lea, MPA ’24, (TSPPPA) was named director of family services at Atlanta Children’s Day Shelter.

Vanessa Lopez, MPP ’19, (TSPPPA) joined the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities as state campaigns manager.

Ruairí Macdonald, PhD ’24, (TSPPPA) authored the book Public Contracting for Social Outcomes (Cambridge University Press).

Fama Mackenzie (Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences) won the Tavistock Trust for Aphasia Distinguished Scholar award 2025.

Shannon McGuire, MPA ’16, (TSPPPA) was promoted to operations director at the Vehicle-Grid Integration Council.

Linda Miller, MPP ’05, (TSPPPA) was featured in the 60 Minutes segment “How billions in U.S. tax money is swindled overseas each year.”

Stephen Mitroff (Psychology) received a $252,000 award from the United States Army Research Laboratory for the project “Everything Counts In Large Amounts: The Power Needed to Delineate the Many Factors that Impact Human Behavior.”

Rolando Murgas, MA ’18, (TSPPPA) was named global head of legal at Wildfire Works.

Jaya Parashar, MPA ’25, Cert ’25, (TSPPPA) received the silver President’s Volunteer Service Award issued by the White House.

Wendy Riemann (Communication) and students from her Professional Communication course created a public service announcement to raise awareness about property fraud. The PSA was named “MVP of the Week” by Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers.

Nina Gilden Seavey (History, Media and Public Affairs) was named to the New York Times’ list of favorite films from the past 25 years for her documentary The Matador.

Holden Thorp (Chemistry) received the Friends of the National Library of Medicine’s 2025 Donald A.B. Lindberg Award for Distinguished Health Communications.

Paul Wahlbeck (CCAS) received the American Political Science Association Law and Courts Lasting Contribution Award for his article, “The Influence of Oral Arguments on the U.S. Supreme Court,” in The American Political Science Review.

Silvio Waisbord (SMPA) authored the book An Introduction to Journalism: Thinking Globally (Polity, 2025).

Graduate student Vannia Yalan (TSPPPA) served as an in-person delegate at the 2025 World Bank Group Youth Summit.
