Registration Update for Spring 2022

Updated November 8, 2021

Registration for Spring 2022 opens on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, for all graduate students.  All students who plan to take at least one on-campus, in-person class on any of GW’s campuses in Spring 2022 must demonstrate compliance with GW’s vaccine requirement through the medical portal before they will be permitted to register for these classes. Compliance with the vaccine requirement is fulfilled either by uploading proof of full vaccination or by requesting and being approved for a medical or religious exemption

Please see additional requirements and exceptions below, as they relate to your individual registration. If you have any questions, please email us at [email protected].

Online courses

You do not need to comply with the vaccine requirement in order to register for online courses.

Dissertation (8999), Thesis Research (6998, 6999), or Continuing Research (CR) CCAS/UNIV 0920, CCAS/UNIV 0940

You must comply with the vaccine requirement to register in Dissertation Research, Thesis Research, or Continuing Research courses.  If you are not compliant but you are completing your research remotely, you will need to request an exemption by emailing [email protected].  If your remote request is approved, you will not have access to any campus facilities. If you received approval to complete your research remotely in Fall 2021, you must request approval again for Spring 2022.

Continuous Enrollment (CE) UNIV 0982

You do not have to comply with the vaccine requirement to be registered in Continuous Enrollment (CE) in Spring 2022, as long as you do not intend to access campus for any reason (including to use the library or to meet with faculty or fellow students). If you are registered in CE and wish to access campus, you must become compliant.

Leave of Absence (LOA)

Students do not have to comply with the vaccine requirement to apply for an LOA. Please complete the Leave of Absence Application form to apply for an LOA in Spring 2022.

New Spring 2022 students

If you are a new student in Spring 2022 and plan to register for any in-person courses, you must comply with GW's vaccine requirement before you will be permitted to register for classes.   Please visit the Onward GW website for more information.

In addition to fulfilling the vaccine requirement by uploading proof of full vaccination or by requesting and being approved for a medical or religious exemption, you will also need to obtain a COVID-19 test at GW before you will be able to access to campus buildings.  You will also be required to comply with GW's continued COVID-19 testing requirement. More information about these requirements can be found on the Onward campus access website.

International student arriving from outside the U.S.

Starting on November 8, 2021, non-citizen, non-immigrant air travelers to the United States will be required to show proof that they are fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine prior to boarding an airplane to fly to the U.S., with only limited exceptions.  A negative COVID test is required to enter the US. Your test must have been completed within 3 days of departure if you are fully vaccinated and within 1 day of departure if you are unvaccinated. Full guidance can be found on the CDC website.
