International Buddy Program: Buddy Information

A group of international students at GW international buddy program event

Are you an international student interested in becoming friends with a current GW Student?

The IBP is designed to enable you to meet a current GW student to help your transition to GW. Newly arrived students like YOU may need a friend to answer your questions and help adjust to a new life here!

As a new international student, you can apply for the International Buddy Program before the fall and spring semesters. You will be matched with a current CCAS graduate student who can serve as a cultural bridge and provide guidance during your transition. Our goal is to create an opportunity for students to appreciate different cultures while sharing your own cultural diversity with others in the program.

Apply Now as Mentee

After Applying and Are Admitted to The Program, You Will:

  • Be contacted via email by a current CCAS student (your mentor)
  • Receive email newsletters highlighting IBP updates and upcoming activities
  • Explore the GW campus with your mentor and learn about important resources upon your arrival
  • Meet with your Mentor at least once in the first week/month of the semester to explore the cultural diversity while studying and living at GW
  • Contact each other by phone or email at least once every two weeks
  • Meet with each other at least three times per semester (you can meet for coffee, meals, events happening at GW or in DC!)

Participate in group events throughout the semester where you can meet other participants in the program. You are expected to commit to all of the above requirements in order to participate in the program. Your commitment is extremely important for the program’s success. Please be responsive to your mentor and IBP communications.
