International Buddy Program

Adjusting to a new cultural environment can be exciting and challenging. New international students often have a lot of questions and concerns during their first weeks on campus. The International Buddy Program (IBP) was created to ease the transition.

The IBP strives to make incoming international students feel welcome and help them prepare for their transition to graduate life. The program partners new international students ("buddies") with current students ("mentors"). The mentors serve as a resource for incoming international students, and provide a friendly face while providing helpful information.

The IBP is open to all CCAS graduate students. It is FREE, FUN and held each semester for new international graduate students. All that is required is your commitment to the program!

We Promote:

  • Connections between current and new international students
  • Cross-cultural friendships
  • Building a globally minded and inclusive community
  • Peer support in finding ways to integrate into the university community

What New Students Can Expect For Joining the Program

  • Connect with a current CCAS student
  • Explore the campus with your mentor
  • Explore cultural differences in studying and living at GW
  • Participate in group events with other international and current students. Lots of FREE food and fun activities!
