On the Cutting Edge of Innovation

December 10, 2014

Few scientists have ridden an arc of innovation quite like Chemistry Professor and award-winning inventor Akos Vertes. He boasts 13 patents, and it’s no stretch to say he has revolutionized the world of biochemistry, widening the scope of research on everything from cancer treatments to our understanding of autism.

Now, Vertes is embarking on his perhaps his most ambitious work to date: developing a transformative method for combating biological and chemical terrorist threats, a topic that makes headlines almost daily.

In a video conversation with Columbian College Dean Ben Vinson, Vertes discussed biochemistry breakthroughs, his vision for the Science and Engineering Hall and the challenges of addressing the nation’s most urgent public health crises.
