Call for Proposals 2017

PROPOSAL DEADLINE: Proposals must be submitted via e-mail by 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Wednesday, February 15, 2017.

A limited number of research proposals will be accepted in each of the following divisions: Humanities, Social Sciences, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Engineering.

Submissions must be relevant to one of the following topics:

a. Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment

b. Science and Technology

c. Science Policy

d. Chronic Diseases and Health

e. Race Relations and Social Movements

f. Domestic and Foreign Policy

g. International Affairs and Security

h. Literature, Arts, and Culture

i. U.S. Policy, Law, and Economics

We invite oral presentations, poster presentations, and academic panels from graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, and administrators, based on your research, teaching or practice perspective as it pertains to one of the above topics (a-i).  This year’s theme is:

“The Urgency of Civic Responsibility:  Building a Movement to Leverage Scholar-Activism in the Academy”.

Students from diverse backgrounds, particularly women and other underrepresented students are especially encouraged to present their research.

Research presentations should be original and must relate to one of the above mentioned, topics (a-i). We seek to feature the research of graduate and undergraduate students across disciplines to recognize outstanding scholarship among students in progress.


General Guidelines

  • All submissions must be accompanied by the Submissions Cover Sheet.

  • A 250‐500 word abstract (including purpose and background, methods, results, conclusions) is required for all submissions. For graduate and undergraduate students, the Submission Abstract form must be signed off by a faculty advisor who has reviewed the abstract. Abstracts without faculty signatures will not be reviewed.

  • Send either a Word document of PDF document to Dean Michelle Nearon at michelle.nearon@yale.edu

  • All notifications and announcements will be made via e‐mail by March 8, 2017


Session Lengths

  1. Academic Panel (up to 3 panelists and 1 moderator): 45 minutes for the presentation and 15 minutes for questions

  2. Oral Research Presentation (individual): 10 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions

  3. Poster Research Presentation (individual): poster presenter must be available to discuss his/her poster during the poster session lasting 1 hour. Easels and white foam poster boards (36” X 48”) will be provided. Please note that all posters must be removed at the end of the session.
